Bishops.
Morning assembly was scheduled to start at 8. 40 am.
Mr Roberts still having breakfast. at 8. 45 and at times 8 50.Then he steps out from the front of the bunglow. Gown flapping in the breeze he rushes across the basketball court. I would be standing out side the hall ( earlier with Mr Ringrow/ Beaman ) later alone when I became HM in 1987. Would be holding the Red Daily orders book in my hand . Mr Roberts would often be scowling - I would wonder - NOW WHAT ! Then there was a prayer / hymn and then the announcements - then came the lecture. Either it was about boys not studying / boarders making a noise/ MOD not on duty / Residential teachers busy enjoying themselves while the Principal was busy all evening doing something on the campus ! That was the part the Residential teachers dreaded ! For goodness sake who would know when a wall was being broken down/ a buiding being demolished or a hole being dug for a drain ! Often Mr Roberts would have the gown on till late in the evening -he even went around from the main campus to St Margarets on his Luna wearing the gown ! It loooked hilarious but who dared laugh !
If he was in the mood he would take us to buy sofa cum beds at 7 pm or decide to renovate a room and start the work at 8 pm !
