Literature for Bishopites

  1. Between 1981- 2001 I taught English Literature and English language in Bishops. Favourite books- Julius Caesar , The Merchant of Venice and As you Like it . Also taught Poetry and Prose . Then there was Letter writing and Essay writing , Guided English and Grammar. Loved the teaching part of it and the setting of the question papers but the corrections got tiresome. Marking papers in an exam was interesting as I was always eager to see who in the class had scored the highest. There were some boys who were so good that it became difficult to cut marks but cut I had to - then came the issue of justifying that the following day . Predicted with great accuracy what would come in the ICSE exam - especially the Lit paper . Most of my pupils scored very well - a 1 and a 2 in English become quite common. Also loved my Literary club - 30 boys every year- a new boy could only get in if someone left the school/ the club ,which was rare . We had fun on Friday evenings with all the Literary games - the treasure hunt being high on the list . 20 questions ,dumb charades just a minute etc were all enjoyed . Great memories of great boys . Cheers guys - think back when you/ if you happen to read this . Would be great if you shared your thoughts as well
