WE NEVER HAD THEM AT BISHOPS ……………………
Worked in Bishops from 1981- 2001 and here is a list of some of the things Bishops never had ( things that never happened) – did it make a difference – MOST DEFINITELY NOT.
Year after year Bishops produced men of character and integrity – men who could hold their own in society- who were ready to make a difference in the world. Today they are at the top/ almost at the top of their various professions / doing exceedingly well in life .
We never had:-
Computers , the internet or mobile phones
A school counsellor ,a special educator, a career counsellor
Projectors in the classrooms or smart boards
Workshops for teachers or micro teaching
Departmental meetings
Collaborative learning or differentiated teaching
Open House for parents
PTA meetings by the score
Parents demanding more marks
Parents complaining about kids getting punished
Parents threatening to report you to the authorities
Visits by the education department
Inspections of any sort by anyone
Positive reinforcements and comments in exercise books
Section coordinators – Section Supervisors ( One Headmaster And One Head Primary assisted the Principal)
Overnight camps in school
Pupil insurance
Father’s day, Mother’s day and Grandparents day celebrations.
School doctors
Parents were not offered tea or coffee when they visited school
Pupils did not sit during assembly
We never had a wheel chair in the clinic !
When pupils were injured ( minor ) parents were not informed in writing and no forms were filled in !
There were no written policies
Parents were not sent emails
The school did not have an email ID
There was no Google search- so pupils visited the library more often!
BYOD was a term not heard of.
Parents never wrote threatening letters to schools
Pupils were given detention without having to inform anyone
One could make a pupil sit in the class during the break and parents did not mind
Video games could be confiscated without a fuss
Prefects could punish without being questioned
Boys would fight – then make up – parents did not get involved.
Any action taken by the school Principal was never questioned by anyone
Quite a few pupils were detained in the same class each year and parents agreed with the school.
Parents lined up outside the school to get their ward admitted / just to get a form – this included Brigadiers and colonels in the army .
Pupils took pride in their uniform and the school tie was worn with pride .
Teachers were looked up to both inside and outside school and years after the pupil passed out as well .
Am sure this list can be added to …………………………………
This article is a salute to all ex Bishopites- May you never let your colours fall
